THE EYE CLINIC
Is directed by Dr.
Diego Mejia, a gifted surgeon, who worked with Dr. Perry for several years. He received his medical degree at the Honduran
Autonomous National University, then completed and ophthalmology specialty at San Carlos
University and Roosevelt Hospital, Guatemala City. In
June 2004 Dr. Marco Fajardo joined our staff. Both
surgeons are ably assisted by dedicated and competent employees who are helping to improve the lives of the poor. The air-conditioned clinic uses modern surgical techniques and has ophthalmic equipment including lasers for after
cataract, diabetic retinopathy, macular disease and glaucoma. Surgery is available for
cataract, glaucoma, strabismus, pterygium, tumors/ diseases of the eyelid and the retina. Glasses and topical ocular medications are
prescribed at inexpensive prices.
The Word Health
Organization has estimated that there are over 75,000 blinding cataracts among the
Honduran population with less than 7% receiving surgical treatment each year. Also estimated is that one out every ten children will face blindness by the age
of forty. |
